Imroving the Productivity Rate and Ergonomic Requirements using Motion and Time Study

The industrial sector is based on several pillars to reach success and achieve its mission and vision, which are mainly the resulted productivity and the human worker. Accordingly, this research aimed to work on solving production problems in one of the garment factories in Jordan by reducing the gap between actual and target production quantity and Improve ergonomics at the same time by reducing the risk levels that exposed to workers. The methodology used in this research is path process chart technique which is a motion and time study (MTS) method that is an advances combination from the process and pathway chart to represent the path that followed by the worker during doing the processes of work to establish the best path based in MTS principles to improve ergonomics side. The study analyzes all processes needed to produce a T-shirt product from two assembly lines. As a result, the production quantity increased from 668 pc to 828 pc to each hour and the efficiency increased from 74.64% to 92.5% and levels of risk have decreased as shown at RULA and REBA assessment tools. It is recommended to use path process chart to analyze the work then eliminate the non-added value motions and reduce risk levels. Also, it is recommended to convert layout from S-shape flow pattern to U-shape flow pattern and redistribute workers to balance workload.
