Assessing the Role of Toyota Distribution and Logistical Network in the Context of Global Challenge Mitigation

This paper explores and investigates the logistical and capacity planning framework adopted by one of the world’s leading automakers, "Toyota Motor Corporation". Therefore, this analysis explores the most prevalent philosophies employed by "Toyota Production System (TPS)" and their link with the literature on "Capacity Management, Supply Chain Management and Total Quality Management". Nonetheless, this analysis demonstrates how the Just in time (JIT) within the TPS achieved its distribution efficiency as well as inventory management purpose and proceeded to discuss the major drawbacks of this approach in the presence of the most significant challenges, such as natural catastrophes, recalls, and the coronavirus outbreak. And lastly, this research concludes with a recommendation that can best serve as a potential disruption mitigation strategy.
