Analysis of the quantization effects in the implementation of numerical filters

The paper analyzes the efficiency of fixed-point implementation and the effect of quantization of coefficients and signals in the implementation of numerical filters on the STM32 Nucleo-64P development board. Discretization methods are also analyzed. By modelling the effects of quantization, it is possible to indicate how the system responds. Proper quantization can increase the performance. We model the quantization error as stochastic noise. The results show that the quantization of the coefficients and the fixed-point processing minimally change the response of the digital filter compared to the analog one, thus achieving very good results at high sampling frequencies. Also, through this analysis, the most efficient implementation can be chosen, taking into account the system and the characteristics of the development board.
