Revamping Machining Operator Allowances through Standard Time Estimation using MOST Technique

Time and motion study plays a crucial role in optimizing plant efficiency by identifying and eliminating non-value-added activities that can hinder productivity. Excessive work content resulting from such activities can lead to increased production time and costs. Addressing these issues requires the elimination of operator idle time and the synchronization of work content to reduce effort and enhance productivity. The Maynard Operation Sequence Technique (MOST) is a highly effective work measurement technique that enables quick, accurate, and effortless measurement of various types of work, spanning manufacturing, engineering, and administrative service activities. In this paper, we propose the application of the MOST technique to provide allowances for proper sculptured surface machining. The technique involves an alignment process that fulfills a user-defined set of criteria for specific operations, ensuring the provision of machining allowances. By determining process-oriented allowances, relevant and acceptable time standards can be established within the industry. The utilization of the MOST technique in time and motion study has demonstrated significant potential for improving plant efficiency through the identification of non-value-added activities, reduction of idle time, and synchronization of work content among operators. This research contributes to enhancing industrial productivity and offers insights into the effective utilization of the MOST technique in diverse operational contexts.
