Improvement in the Thermal performance of a MCCB

More people are using modern technology today than a decade ago. It will disrupt the electrical system and strain both commercial and industrial machinery. Commercial and industrial equipment is expensive, so it is crucial to insulate it from any kind of power system disruption. If any unfavourable occurrences influence the equipment’s supply, the safeguarding device structure must be sufficiently robust to protect the equipment and disconnect it from the system. The protective system is considered to be one of the most crucial parts of any electrical system. In order to preserve the healthy operation of equipment and provide protection to industrial and commercial machinery, the MCCB must trip if the temperature rises above a specified threshold. If a MCCB fails to trip, associated equipment could be harmed. The ability of a bimetallic strip and heating assembly to produce and expel heat under typical circumstances, that is, when it is carrying current, is examined in this work. On ANSYS software, the thermal performance is initially assessed using the thermal-electric finite element approach, and it is subsequently confirmed through experimental testing. Equations are used to compute the bimetal’s deflection with the aid of the temperature analysis.
