Customized CMU-CDIO Syllabus for Engineering Students at Chiang Mai University: Design and Piloting

This paper presents an approach for customizing essential attributes for engineering students at Chiang Mai University based on the CDIO syllabus 3.0, resulting in the “customized CMU-Eng CDIO syllabus.” The syllabus facilitates planning of student activities by departments, student development affairs, and the student union involved in developing students' social skills. The paper discusses the process design, and pilot survey of the customized CMU-Eng CDIO syllabus. The preliminary findings from three stakeholder groups, including the faculty staff, student unions and industries, indicate the importance of skills such as analytic reasoning, problem-solving, teamwork, collaboration, and communication. The student development staff recommends additional competencies related to mental health and self-awareness. The Thai version of the proficiency evaluation rubric is developed by translating the syllabus into Thai, altering the language for comprehension, and tailoring to fit industry context as suggested by the industrial pilot groups.
