Electrothermal Analysis of Cable-in-Conduit Conductor Made from Quasi-Isotropic Strands

This article mainly focuses on the thermal stability of three structural cable-in-conduit conductors composed of quasi-isotropic strands in 77 K. We introduce three structural conductors and calculate the critical currents. Heat disturbance is applied to simulate the quench process. By comparing the minimum quench energy and normal zone propagation velocity of the conductors, the role of copper wire fillers and the stainless steel sheath in improving the thermal stability of conductors is analyzed. Finally, the evolutions of temperature and current distribution in each component during the process of quench and quench recovery are elaborated.
