Understanding the Effectiveness of Double Modal Reservation in PCB Manufacturing: Experimental Study on Radiated Emissions

In this research paper, an experimental investigation was conducted to evaluate the radiated emissions and sustainability of circuits incorporating double modal reservation (MR). To facilitate the study, a specialized printed circuit board (PCB) prototype was specifically manufactured for use in conjunction with a miniature TEM-cell. The S-parameters of the PCB prototype were measured, enabling the calculation of field strength magnitudes within the frequency range of up to 5 GHz, considering various combinations for boundary conditions. The analysis encompassed not only the examination of the PCB with double MR under optimal operating conditions but also under the most challenging failure scenarios at the ends of the transmission lines. This comprehensive approach aimed to assess the effectiveness of implementing double MR in PCB manufacturing, even in the presence of failures. Through the investigation, the most advantageous approach for tracing the conductors of PCBs with double MR was identified, taking into account radiation levels and sustainability to radiation. Overall, this study contributes to the existing knowledge by providing experimental insights into the radiated emissions and performance of circuits with double MR. The research outcomes offer valuable guidance for the development of more resilient and reliable PCB designs, ensuring compliance with radiation emission standards.
