Design and Deployment of MRHeart Software to Process Cardiac MRI Images on Workstation

Cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) is considered one of the most modern cardiovascular diagnostic and monitoring methods. Currently, this technique is widely applied in coronary artery disease, congenital heart disease, cardiomyopathy, heart valve, etc. Quantitative assessment of the diseased myocardium on CMRI plays an important role in the diagnosis and prognosis of cardiovascular disease. The aim of this work is to design and deploy a software to extract the Region Of Interest (ROI) from the cardiac MRI images and calculate the size, mass, volume, and blood flow of the heart using Simpson’s rule. DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) medical images are obtained directly and automatically from the MRI modality through the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) at Telemedicine and Mobile Healthcare lab, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. The experimental investigation of the proposed work shows that the cardiovascular diagnostic using our software offers faster assessment of cardiac parameters than only with traditional doctors.
