Construction of A 1:7 Scaled Autonomous Car for Conducting Vehicle Dynamic Experiments

Induction of small scaled vehicles for the purposes of conducting autonomous vehicle experiments, for the benefit of advancing vehicle dynamics knowledge has never been more important than this modern day. As we dwell into stage 4 and stage 5 Autonomous Vehicles, a mass experimentation on large fleet of full sized cars is required, which would incur huge financial costs and time delays. Hence, a small scaled car that can perform these experiments, time and cost effectively is required. Essentially, it is required to be scalable to a full sized real life vehicle. The following work briefly describes (step-by-step) a 1:7 small scaled RC car's construction, that has been proven to be dimensionally equivalent to a full sized passenger car. The RC-car is completely driven autonomously with cutting edge sensors and modern day software and hardware. The constructed RC car has been tested for it's accuracy (82 % to 99.3 %), reliability and sensitivity, against a hypothesised real-life passenger car.
