Performance Evaluation of a Capacitor-self-excited Linear Eddy Current Brake for Railway Vehicles

A linear eddy-current brake is used for a type of braking device for railway vehicles that generates the braking force without mechanical contact. The authors proposed a self-excited linear eddy current brake using capacitors. In this paper, the performance of the linear eddy current brake with gap width variation is shown in a bench test using a full-scale armature.
