LoRa Industrial Monitoring and Management Network

With an increasing demand for data across various industries, IoT-based sensor networks have become a common solution for this problem. While most Internet of Things (IoT) devices communicate using wireless mediums such as Wireless-Fidelity (Wi-Fi), Bluetooth, or cellular, these solutions carry certain limitations in terms of range and energy consumption. In industries, such as agriculture or permanent deployment in environments such as roads, devices are required to work for multiple years on batteries, transmitting measured data over long distances. LoRa (Long Range) networks can be suitable for such a use case, enabling transmission of data over distances of multiple kilometers while consuming little energy, due to LoRa wireless modulation. In our work, we explore the utilization of this solution for monitoring and managing deployments of IoT devices, as well as possibilities of firmware updates, which help enhance the functionality and security of these devices. In this paper, we propose our LoRa Monitoring and Management Network (LOMON) architecture.
