Tracking and Assessment System for Home Physiotherapy Exercises

Physical therapy plays a crucial role in pain relief and physical rehabilitation, with exercise therapy being a common technique used to improve patient function and overall well-being. However, adherence to home exercises and accurate performance without supervision can be challenging, potentially hindering the healing process. This study aims to assist physiotherapists in analyzing patient movements during prescribed exercises to identify incorrect techniques or movements. The study focuses on the development of a device using a glove with an MPU6050 sensor for data collection. A survey was conducted among 15 physical therapists, which demonstrated a need for an exercise tracking device to improve patient compliance and enhance therapy outcomes. The device uses the MPU6050 sensor to collect data on hand position, acceleration, and range of motion during exercises. The collected data is transmitted to a computer for real-time analysis, providing visual representation and quantitative feedback to physiotherapists. The device was tested and validated with a group of participants who performed home exercises as part of their therapy plan. Results indicate that the device effectively detects incorrect exercise forms and techniques. The study findings highlight the potential of wearable technologies and motion tracking systems to optimize physiotherapy outcomes and improve patient engagement in the rehabilitation process.
