Research and Evaluation of Video Conferencing Systems in the Context of Distance Education/Working Processes

The concepts of online education and remote working, which have entered our lives with the developments in technology, have become an indispensable element of human life due to events such as disasters and epidemics in recent years. Choosing a suitable video conferencing system is of great importance in order to carry out the concepts of online education and remote working. In this study, the performances of Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Big Blue Button and Jitsi applications, which are the most commonly used video conferencing systems, are analyzed. In this context, a virtual classroom environment was established and related applications were compared using throughput, jitter, latency and packet count metrics. When the test results were examined, it was concluded that all four products had similar performances. It has been stated that the most important factors affecting user preferences are the installation and management of the server infrastructure, application and master data integrations, and user interfaces.
