A UAV Forest Fire Detection Method Based on Dual-Light Vision Images

The forest fires have numerous hazards and effects on environment. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) can provide important help for forest fire detection with fast and flexible response features. In order to detect the occurrence of forest fire(s) effectively and quickly, a UAV-based forest fire detection method is proposed with dual-light vision images. The main idea of the method is to use visible light images in YCrCb color space and infrared (IR) grayscale images to get flame mask to complete flame detection. Meanwhile, visible light images in HSV color space is used to get smoke mask to complete smoke detection even for possible earlier fire detection. Finally, the proposed method is verified using DJI M300 RTK UAV platform with H20T camera as onboard sensor.
