Design of Control and Data Acquisition for Smart Home Based on Smartphone

The newest technology, the Internet of Things (IoT), has a remarkable impact on raising living standards and advancing the global economy. Smart homes are one of the applications of IoT, which is also recognized in the community as a technology to facilitate global connectivity in numerous sectors. A "smart home" is a novel method of controlling home appliances like a lamp, Air Conditioner (AC), heater, and gate remotely over the internet using a Human Machine Interface (HMI). In this study, a smartphone-based prototype control and data collecting system for a smart home is presented. The major components of the system are ATMega2560 and ESP8266 microcontrollers, and the HMI system is created using Android. The system is built on Android and can measure physical amounts (metering), signaling alarm systems (signaling), and remotely operating household appliances (controlling) with ease and efficiency. The microcontroller uses an 889-millisecond interval for sending and reading data to the server. Internet connectivity and server data traffic have an impact on the success rate and communication speed. The data from the metering system accurately reflects the real-world circumstances of the prototype smart home. When applied, controlling, and signaling systems may perform well.
