Security and Supporting Factors To Predict The Rapid Adoption of M-Payments in Rural Areas of Indonesia

Because of its practical nature, m-payment is an alternative representative technique that individuals often use for transactions. However, users in rural areas are concerned about the security of the m-payment system. Therefore, this research seeks to identify the elements that drive the intention to use m-payment and the facets that contribute to the security of the m-payment system. Data collection used an online questionnaire, and 270 data were collected. Data were interpreted operating multivariate statistics using partial least square-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) technique. This investigation proves that perceived ease of use (PEOU), relative advantage, security, and visibility positively and significantly affect the intention to use m-payments in rural communities. Furthermore, privacy has a negative and significant effect on security. Trialability and ubiquity have a positive and significant impact on security. Practically, this research contributes to m-payment service providers in understanding how users in rural areas adopt m-payment.
