Color Improvement in Underwater Image using Polynomial Equation and Image Dehazing Algorithm

This paper proposes color restoration techniques in underwater images using polynomial equation techniques and dehazing techniques. Discoloration and light scattering are the two primary factors that produce distortion in underwater images. Loss of contrast and loss of color variation can result from either of these variables in underwater photography. This research contributes to improving the quality of underwater reef images with effective and accurate solutions. A comprehensive verification using MATLAB is carried out to determine the effectiveness of the Polynomial Equation and DeHazing techniques combination. The results of this method get a color quality that is close to the color of the image on the surface. According to the experimental findings, the combined Polynomial Equation and DeHazing technique yields better PSNR results than the other methods used as a benchmark. The PSNR for the Polynomial Equation method is 13.29. The PSNR for the CLAHE method is 12.58. The PSNR for the Dehazing method is 13.72. As well as the combined method of Polynomial Equations - Dehazing get a PSNR value of 14.72. The quality of the image produced by this technique increases with increasing PSNR values. This research expected to be able to get underwater image results that are close to the original color.
