Estimation of Power Losses in Interleaved Buck-Boost Converter for EV Charging Applications

Electric vehicle (EV) market is increasing drastically. Some of the main concerns of EVs are charging the batteries and driving range issues. Additionally, the battery charger is regarded as the fundamental technology. Therefore, the designing of an efficient charger for EV batteries may resolve the charging issues and strengthen the EV infrastructure. An interleaved buck-boost converter (IBBC) is elaborated in detail in this study. The power loss modeling is presented in detail including different modes of operations. Further, the simulation studies are carried out with the help of MATLAB version 2015a to validate the theoretical findings. Finally, the efficiency analysis is also presented for both the operating modes i.e. buck and boost.
