Augmenting Reality in Mountain Routes

The tourism industry is a rapidly growing sector that has been transformed by advancements in technology. This paper explores the potential of augmented reality (AR) technology to enhance the agritourism experience by providing visitors with an immersive and interactive way to learn about touristic routes. An augmented reality application is developed in Microsoft Hololens 2 in order to enhance the user experience in touristic routes in Western Macedonia. Specifically, it focuses on the Mixed Reality Tourist Routes section of the AGROTOUR program, which aims to promote the mountainous areas of the Western Macedonia region as walking tourism destinations. The research team records points of tourist interest and creates Mixed Reality electronic material for each point, offering visitors an enriched experience through 3D content.
