Robotic Electrothermal Microgripper with V-Beam Configuration for Handling Microobjects

In this paper, a V-shaped or chevron bent beam electrothermal microgrippers's performance is presented. Recent developments in the area of microrobotics are inextricably tied to the capacity to firmly grasp an item without causing harm to the surface or structure. The Joule heating process and thermal expansion are the theoretical foundations for the proposed chevron microgripper. It leverages the chevron form to amplify the thermal expansion in order to generate significant in-plane displacement with low power consumption. Using aluminium as a structural material and an applied electric potential of 0.2V between anchors, the behaviour of the thermal bent beam microgripper is studied. The proposed microgripper is initial closed type which produces the optimum displacement of about
$15.6 \mu\mathrm{m}$
with the 1.53GPa stress. The thermal analysis is also been done and the resultant temperature is 446°C which is less than the melting point of aluminium. The microgripper that was developed might be used for a variety of robotic tasks, including the manipulation of microobjects in the manufacturing sector, the handling of living cells, and many more.
