Model Predictive Control Based Power Scheduling of Offshore Wind Farm for Primary Frequency Support Considering Turbulent Wind Uncertainty

Offshore wind power is expected to continue to grow strongly in the near future. And it is necessary for the offshore wind power to participate in power system primary frequency regulation. In this paper, we propose a MPC based power scheduling approach for offshore wind farm to provide primary frequency support. The uncertainty of turbulent wind is first modeled using a trajectory envelope. Next, the mathematical models for wind turbine and offshore wind farm for primary frequency regulation are presented. Then, the MPC based scheme for power scheduling of offshore wind farm to participated in primary frequency regulation is developed. Finally, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed power scheduling strategy with numerical simulation.
