Outdoor Performance Analysis of Mono-Si and Poly-Si Solar PV Panels in the Philippines

Outdoor performance of PV modules is considered site-specific and dependent on environmental factors. This study aims to evaluate the performance of mono-Si and poly-Si PV modules in the Philippines. Two experiments were conducted simultaneously at the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute (EEEI) rooftop at the University of the Philippines Diliman. Experiments were conducted to compare the relative energy performance of the modules in outdoor conditions, and to investigate the effect of irradiance, module temperature, and dust accumulation on the module surface to its energy production, respectively. In terms of energy performance, mono-Si has a 20.45% to 25.70% higher energy yield compared to poly-Si, which was explained by the difference in average efficiency. Hourly average efficiency for mono-Si ranges from 18.53% -18.64%, while poly-Si ranges from 15.01% - 15.64%. As for performance ratio, mono-Si outperforms poly-Si by 19.85%to 22.78%. , the temperature for mono-Si decreases while the temperature of the poly-Si increases which translates to overall higher PV power production for mono-Si compared to poly-Si. Lastly, An increase of +4.09% on weekly average energy yield and 5.28% weekly energy efficiency were estimated for mono-Si. Meanwhile, a decrease of -6.31
