Spin Transport Across a Nonmagnet Ferrimagnet Interface

The spin transport across a nonmagnetic (NM)-ferrimagnetic (FiM) interface in the presence of interfacial disorder is reported. Based on a wavefunction matching scheme a spin current injected into the FiM gives rise to a highly non local spin transfer torque whose thickness dependence is accesible to experiments. An angular dependent conductance significantly different from the FMs is observed. A measurable angular resistance of upto 6% is also reported. The angular dependent conductance, angular resistance and spin transfer torque are very sensitive to the interfacial disorder. The oscillation of the spin transfer torque deep into the spin sink signifies a long spin coherence length which is useful in information transfer applications.
