Static Transmission Network Expansion Planning Considering Voltage Limits

Due to ever-increasing electricity demand, the need to expand transmission network system arises. Transmission Network Expansion Planning (TNEP) is an issue caused by addition of large scale power generation into an existing power system. For an efficient power system, transmission network and generation systems are expanded together. Optimization is then conducted to get optimal solution technically and economically. In this paper, static transmission network expansion planning (STNEP) problem is formulated in a multi-objective, deterministic environment involving investment, and transmission power losses costs. Transmission line loading and penalties related to system voltage violations are considered. The developed formulation is based on AC power flow model and optimized using binary particle swarm optimization (BPSO) algorithm. The developed methodology has been tested on Garver's 6-bus network. The results show that network will possess maximum efficiency economically and operationally through reduction of congestion and improved transmission system adequacy.
