Seismic Hazard Mapping in Northwestern Algeria

Northern Algeria is a part of the Eurasia-Africa tectonic plates boundary, consequently, it is a prone area for occurrence of earthquakes. We propose in this work to assess and map peak ground acceleration in northwestern Algeria by using the PSHA method. The methodology includes the following four steps: (i) Identification of seismic sources, (ii) Determination of sources parameters, (iii) Definition of ground motion attenuation model and finally, (iv) Assessment and mapping of seismic hazard. The obtained results are shown in terms of curves of annual frequencies of exceedance versus acceleration (PGA), as strong motion scenario for the Oran city by performing a deaggregation analysis and a uniform hazard spectrum (UHS), as well as 475 years return period acceleration map.
