Physical Layer Identification for Wireless Local Access in the Smart Grid

In this article, a secure technology for authenticating communication access within a private wireless network is presented. The device is identified through physical radio frequency fingerprint authentication at the physical layer which enhances the security of device access. Furthermore, the concept of distributed authentication is employed to ease the device authentication burden on the core network side and enhance the speed of access device authentication.
