Relocating On-Street Parking to Smart Parking Structure for Optimizing the Commercial Shared Street in Yeonnam-Dong, Seoul

The process of gentrification in Yeonnam-dong has led to significant changes in the utilization of land use. This urban trend has its own advantages and disadvantages, impacting the dynamics of the area and resulting in a conversion of residential buildings to commercial ones. This expansion of commercial activities has increased the demand for parking space, which is limited in this neighborhood. Consequently, this has led to indirect effects on the urban environment, such as overcrowded on-street parking and traffic congestion during the weekends, as well as pedestrian safety concerns in certain areas lacking sidewalks. In response to this gentrification issue, the urban network analysis has been conducted to propose comprehensive design solutions in terms of optimizing the commercial shared street in Yeonnam-dong. It investigates the existing land-use patterns, transportation networks, and pedestrian issues. The findings emphasize the necessity of relocating on-street parking to a vertical parking structure with a smart system to enhance pedestrian safety, alleviate congestion, and improve the overall commercial environment. In general, the suggestions presented in this research have the potential to offer valuable guidance to policymakers, urban planners, and researchers, and stimulate further research in related fields.
