Identification of the Development Cogeneration Potential in Cities

Energy development around the world is aimed at improving the energy efficiency of energy production. One of the well-known ways to improve energy efficiency is to increase the share of combined production. It is possible to increase the share of combined production by transforming the boiler house into a mini-CHPP, as an object of joint generation of heat and electricity. However, in municipalities or cities, the efficiency of introducing cogeneration technologies through the reconstruction of boiler houses is not the same. It is largely determined by the ratio of production of heat and electricity, the level of development of cogeneration now, resource sufficiency, and others. Now, there are no comprehensive methods that allow choosing a municipality that has a significant potential for the introduction of cogeneration technologies. This work aims to develop and justify a methodology for multi-criteria analysis and ranking of cities from the standpoint of the potential for improving energy efficiency by transforming boiler houses into mini-CHPPs. Based on the developed methodology, an analysis of the cities of Russia was carried out and their ranking was carried out from the standpoint of the potential for the development of cogeneration.
