Low Speed Direct Drive Electrical Generator for Multi-Blade Wind Turbine Application

This paper presents the design and optimization results for a direct drive high torque, low-speed spoke-type permanent magnet generator driven by a multi-blade wind turbine rotor. The generator has an outer-rotor structure and a combination of 45 slots and 34 rotor poles to reduce the cogging torque. The optimization results, using JMAG software, show that an average efficiency increase of approximatively 0.7
