Remote Health Monitoring System to Prevent the Spread of Contagious Viruses

In the context of the emergence of new types of diseases and viruses that can exploit certain deficiencies of the human immune system, different types of vaccines and treatments have been developed to combat the new threats. In order to monitor the health status of a patient suffering from a particular condition, various technical solutions have been proposed so that the effectiveness of a particular treatment scheme can be certified. It is proposed a solution, based on the Arduino development platform,for monitoring the health status. The platform has the possibility to transmit data collected from a sensorial system and store them to a remote device. The system is designed to monitor human body temperature with three temperature sensors placed on the head, body and lower limbs to obtain the average body temperature; an oximeter sensor for simultaneously monitoring the heart rate and the blood oxygen level of a patient; and two sensors for measuring indoor air quality, namely a gas sensor and a temperature and humidity sensor. This latter sensor is used to decide whether the environment is conducive to certain bacteria or viruses. The remote health monitoring system was designed using a dedicated software package, then manufactured using a 3D printer. The built system is robust and compact, being suitable for long-term use.
