Numerical Modeling and Simulation of Large Transmitarrays Antennas for X and Ka Band Applications

The large interest in Transmitarray (TA) antennas as potential solutions for the next generation of telecommunications has brought great developments for this field of “discrete lenses”. The phase-front manipulation aspect of TAs enable multiple applications and functions for these antennas, such as polarization switching, bidirectional radiation and multi-beam patterns. Given the complexity of such apertures composed of thousands of unit-cells, it is very important to establish clear methodologies for the efficient and accurate full-wave simulation of TAs. This work presents detailed characteristics of three different full-wave and one semi-analytical simulations of two TA design applications in X and Ka-band. The proposed methods are compared to measurements and great agreement is found between them.
