Laser-Induced Graphene Fan Antenna for RFID applications

Laser-Induced Graphene (LIG) has emerged as a cost-effective and efficient technique for synthesizing graphene from a polymeric precursor, making it particularly appealing for the development of electronic devices and sensors within the Internet of Things (IoT) domain.In our prior investigation, we presented a pioneering RFID tag, embedding sensing capabilities and entirely fabricated using LIG. However, the design had a significant substrate area subjected to thermal effects due to laser scribing. To address this concern, we propose an alternative layout that significantly reduces the amount of graphene employed, achieving an approximate 50% reduction. Notably, our findings reveal that this reduction does not compromise the performance of the antenna, as it remains comparable to the original design. Additionally, the newly proposed layout effectively mitigates the thermal bending issues encountered in the previous approach. Moreover, our novel LIG-based RFID tag outperforms existing state-of-the-art counterparts in terms of performance, establishing a new benchmark in this field.
