Investigation on Internal Wall Defects of Pipes Using FMCW Radar Imaging Methods

In this contribution we investigate internal wall defects of pipes in terms of their characteristic reflectivity using frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar imaging methods. The first method is based on the principle of circular synthetic aperture radar (CSAR) and the second, on using a focusing dielectric lens antenna. Both methods are compared in terms to their resulting images. The FMCW radar operates from 126 GHz to 182 GHz and is mounted on electrical translation rails, which can move in x- and y-direction, respectively. The investigated pipe is made of PVC and positioned on an electrical turntable.
