High Gain, Incognito, On-Body Passive RFID Design

A new meander dipole design is presented for an incognito (hidden) on-body passive RFID antenna with high gain in the UHF band. This research is inspired by the many applications that on-body RFIDs can have in medical, space, defense, and emergency response fields. The new antenna design uses a meandering dipole structure with a patch antenna array to minimize the impact of human tissue’s high permittivity and loss tangent and achieve further RFID tag read distances. Simulated results show a maximum linear gain of 1.01 at 915MHz for on body operation.
