Transformer-Based mm-Wave Low-Loss Active Isolator in 22nm FD-SOI

On-chip non-reciprocal circuits are suitable antenna-transceiver interfaces for denser system integration scenarios at mm-Wave frequencies. This paper focuses on the design and test results of a transformer-based non-reciprocal on-chip active isolator fabricated on 22nm FD-SOI from Global Foundries. The isolator functions in the 36 - 40GHz band with a minimum insertion loss of 1dB and 20dB isolation at 38GHz.
