Novel SV-PWM Strategies for Six-Phase Induction Motor Drive With Reduced Switching Losses and Common-Mode Voltage

This article presents new insights into space vector based pulsewidth modulation techniques for six-phase induction motor (6ΦIM) drives with a focus on reducing the amplitude of peak common-mode voltage (CMV) and inverter switching losses. Initially, two existing switching sequences (named RSVM1 and RSVM2) that provide the maximum CMV are studied. Additionally, six switching sequences are proposed in this article that reduce the amplitude of peak CMV by 66.8% compared to the existing switching sequences. Among these, two switching sequences are specifically developed to achieve minimum inverter switching losses and CMV, named 6Φ-DCMV1-A2 and 6Φ-DCMV2-A2. The proposed switching sequences are compared with the existing switching sequences to verify the reduction in CMV and inverter switching losses. All claims are validated using analytical, simulation, and experimental results. This article is accompanied by a video that captures the experimental test setup while 6Φ-CCMV1 is running on 6ΦIM.
