Comparison of Impedance Measurement Methods in LISN Calibration Between 9 kHz – 100 MHz

This paper contains a comparison of measurement performances of line impedance stabilization network (LISN) calibration setups with different methods in the frequency range between 9 kHz - 100 MHz. Line impedance stabilization networks, also known as artificial main networks (AMN), are radio frequency (RF) instruments used to provide impedance and isolate noise from the power line between VLF (very low frequency) and VHF (very high frequency) ranges. Characterization and statistical evaluation of the measurement performances on impedance measurement, which is one of the measurement parameters performed in the calibration of the LISN device, by comparison between the four methods, was aimed. These methods are setups using a vector network analyzer (VNA) and VNA Tools, which are specified in CISPR 16-1-2 standard, LCR meter, and oscilloscope-current probe devices. Impedance measurements with the methods of LCR meter and oscilloscope setups are based on voltage and current applications. Measurements performed with an oscilloscope and current probe, the impedance magnitude and phase components are obtained with measurements of the voltage and current over the LISN impedance by applying voltage to the system. The methods of measurement, which are performed with VNA are based on the application electromagnetic power to the device under test (DUT) instead of known voltage or current value and, power measurement. These four methods have two different theories, and it is investigated that which measurement method would be more advisable to use in which frequency region of these methods.
