Requirement Based Coverage Analysis in DO-178C Compliant Software Development Projects

In this paper, as mentioned in the guideline document for aircrafts DO-178C, the definition of requirement based coverage analysis, its purposes and applications are explained. As well as the risks and possible mistakes in the analysis and the results which obtained are presented. Requirement-based Software is verified using requirement based test cases. Even if the test cases has been reviewed, untested requirements and incorrect traceabilities are very common problems, especially in projects that have a higher number of requirements or whose requirements are updated more frequently. For this reason, requirement based coverage analysis is used to increase the quality and to eliminate deficiencies concerning tests and traceabilities in test cases. Within the scope of the paper, first of all, the requirement based testing process will be mentioned. Afterwards, it will be mentioned what the requirement based coverage analysis is and in which situations it can be used. After analysis what the uncovered and undefined requirements are, risks associated with analysis and the output of the analysis will be explained. Then, the gained experiences will be presented.
