Network Slicing Modeling and Simulation on 5G Networks Using Virne

One of the challenges in the 5G network is the large number of new cases in telecommunications services; for example the application of autonomous vehicle technology, digital health services, augmented reality, and the Internet of Things (IoT). All of these things have specific needs for a service on the telecommunications network infrastructure. Network slicing is defined as end-to-end (E2E) logical or virtual networks that run on the same physical network platform, are mutually isolated between user groups, with independent control and management, and that can be created on demand. Virtual networks are mapped to physical networks and is known as the virtual network embedding (VNE) problem. The challenge in VNE is how to efficiently allocate physical network resources for virtual network needs. In this paper, we discuss VNE modeling and simulation with VNE algorithms such as MIP (mixed integer programming), DRVNE (deterministic), and RD-VNE (randomly) from ViNEYard which is a collection of virtual network embedding algorithms that utilize better coordination between two phases in selecting nodes and edges using the Virne simulator. We tried a new perspective by modeling and simulating network slicing for 3 service scenarios in 5G such as Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMMB), Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communications (uRLLC) and Massive Machine Type Communications (mMTC) using the Virne simulator and were successful in carrying out testing these 3 scenarios using the VineYard algorithm on that platform.
