An Iterative Algorithm Based on the Method of Steepest Descent for SAR Satellite Yaw Steering

In this paper, an efficient algorithm based on turbo iterations is proposed to precise computation of yaw steering angles of Spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radars (SAR) Systems. By taking advantages of the method of steepest descent, the algorithm may converge quickly to the desired yaw steering angles to be calculated. Its numerical precision and computational efficiency are superior compared with previous works. In addition to yaw angles, the algorithm may provide capability of pitch steering, thus setting the slope of Doppler frequency versus range to be zero. Computer simulations demonstrate that precise computation of yaw and pitch angles can be achieved with proper choose of the step sizes. These numerical results may help us to design SAR satellites in the yaw steering mode.
