Inversion of InSAR Data for Estimation of Earthquake Source Parameters, Case Study from Amatrice, Italy

On August 24, 2016, a series of high-magnitude earthquakes occurred near Amatrice, Italy. The remote sensing data help in quickly monitoring large-scale changes that might appear on the land surface. However, such data can also provide valuable information for modelling earthquake source parameters. Combining this knowledge with geological information might be beneficial to better understand the mechanism of earthquake formation. This study presents the displacement field that was observed after the main shock in August 2016, utilizing the Sentinel-1 data and DInSAR method. Additionally, it explores the use of such data to backward model the source parameters of an earthquake to determine the coordinates, depth and volume change in the deformation source.
