A Preliminary Assessment of ZY1-02E’s Hyperspectral Data Application for Inland Water Clarity Retrieval

Chinese ZY1-02E satellite is designed to provide hyperspectral and high-resolution imagery for land resources monitoring. It was successfully launched on December 26th, 2021. ZY1-02E carries a hyperspectral imager that can acquire 166-band images at a 30m spatial resolution with a 60km swath. Considering its abundant narrow bands, ZY1-02E has potentials to be applied for inland water quality monitoring. In this paper, ZY1-02E images were acquired with concurrent in situ measured data for two inland water bodies, and the ability of water clarity estimation was then evaluated for ZY1-02E’s hyperspectral data. acquired the AURE of 14.0% and MRE of 0.15 m, indicating that hyperspectral images from ZY1-02E satellite can be utilized for accurate water clarity retrieval.
