Soil Moisture Measurement Using Twin-Lead Ladder Line

This paper describes a new method of measuring soil moisture via its dielectric properties using a parallel twin lead ladder line. Using a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) to measure the reflection coefficient of the transmission line which is then used to find the true permittivity of the soil. An experiment is conducted by burying a 450 Ohm ladder line where in which the result is compared to the method derived by other method where it shows good correlation at moisture levels below 25%.
