Water Extraction Based On Hyperspectral Data Onboard Chinese Zy1-02e Satellite

Water area extraction is necessary for understanding the distribution and changing trend of existing water resources. Remote sensing data can be used to quickly and accurately retrieve the water area, and therefore becomes an effective data source for water resources related studies. Chinese satellite ZY1-02E carries both hyperspectral and multispectral imagers that can be used for water delineation. In order to evaluate the water range extraction capability of ZY1-02E’s hyperspectral data, we selected three lakes in China as the study areas. In the experiment, four commonly used water indexes, NDWI, MNDWI, NWI and AWEI, were used to extract the water range of ZY1-02E images. The accuracy of the water range extraction results is verified by the visual interpretation result of Sentinel-2 image. The results showed that all the four water indexes could extract the water range well: the water body extraction accuracy of NDWI, AWEI, NWI, and AWEI from high to low is 99.32%, 99.29%, 99.20%, 99.18%.
