A Millimeter-Wave Wide-Angle Scanning Phased Array With Printed Ridge Gap Waveguide Feeding

A printed ridge gap waveguide (PRGW)-fed wide angle scanning phased array operating at 30 GHz is presented. The phase array consists of eight substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity-backed slot elements each with a PRGW feeding structure. Equivalent magnetic currents, which are generated in these cavity-backed slots, generate dual resonances and the wide-beam radiation of each element in the frequency range of 28.6 ~ 30.8 GHz (7.4%). These radiation slots are fed by slot coupling. The whole array performs a maximum scanning angle up to 60° in its E-plane and a realized gain varying from 11.2 to 13.5 dBi. Besides, the active reflection coefficient bandwidth of the phased array antenna is about 1.5 GHz.
