Design of Tri-Band Shared-Aperture Antenna for 5G Communication

In this paper, a tri-band shared-aperture antenna is proposed for 5G communication. The antenna adopts a stacked structure, in which the upper layer is a dual-band microstrip patch antenna operating at FR1 (Sub-6 GHz) and the lower layer is a 4×6 substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) slot array antenna operating at FR2 (Millimeter Wave). In order to reduce the shielding of the microstrip patch antenna to the SIW slot array antenna, the frequency selective surface (FSS) is used to discretize the dual-band microstrip patch antenna. The simulated results demonstrate that the antenna achieves impedance bandwidths of 2.51-2.68 GHz, 4.74-5.03 GHz and 25.47-26.42 GHz, and gains of 4.40 dBi (at 2.6 GHz), 8.91 dBi (at 4.9 GHz) and 19.1 dBi (at 25.8 GHz).
