Implementation of Forward Dynamic Programming in Solving Thermal Generation Scheduling

The highest operating costs for power plants are fuel costs. As a result, thermal generator scheduling needs to be optimized. This study aims to develop an efficient distribution schedule to obtain minimum fuel costs. The data tested is from a thermal generation system consisting of four geothermal power plants using daily loads. This study uses the forward dynamic programming method to determine the commit and decommit generating units. In addition, the lagrange multiplier is also used to schedule the economics of the generator. The optimization results are then compared with the real conditions in the field. Based on the optimization results it is known that using the forward dynamic programming method and the lagrange multiplier can reduce operating costs up to IDR 1.849.223 which is 30% more economical than the real system conditions.
