Investigation of Mutual Coupling Effect on Beam Scanning Performance of Quasi-Yagi Antenna Linear Array

This paper presents a study aimed at analyzing the impact of mutual coupling effect on the beam scanning characteristics of the quasi-Yagi phased array antenna in an array environment. The phased array is composed of 1×8 quasi-Yagi antenna elements with a spacing of 0.5λ

at the central operating frequency. The analysis results show that the mutual coupling effect influences the electromagnetic energy distribution on the surface of the array, which makes the quasi-Yagi antenna phased array exhibit extraordinary beam scanning performance: the 3dB beam scanning range of the array is 1.77 times that of the 3dB beam width of the element, thus realizing the relatively large angle scanning characteristics of the E-plane. The research results in this paper can provide a positive reference value for the wide-angle scanning design of the planar quasi-Yagi antenna.
