Analysis of SYN Flood Attack Detection on Web-Based Services Using Round Trip Time (RTT) Calculation

The profound impact of information technology on human life is undeniable. One prominent benefit is the effortless dissemination of Information through Internet services. These services heavily rely on web servers for their deployment. However, despite their long existence, web server systems still suffer from numerous vulnerabilities, with Denial of Service (DoS) attacks being a major concern. Among these attacks, SYN Flooding poses a significant threat by inundating the server with a continuous stream of packet requests, causing service disruptions. Detecting and mitigating SYN Flood attacks is crucial for ensuring uninterrupted network connectivity. Our research comprehensively investigates the SYN Flood attack and proposes an approach for detecting it using the Round Trip Time (RTT) method. Analyzing the RTT values, we aim to identify quantitative parameters that facilitate the swift detection of SYN Flood attacks on web servers. Our experimental results shed light on the effectiveness of this detection mechanism, offering valuable insights for enhancing web server security and safeguarding against malicious attacks.
